Riding Currently 6th After Day 1 at IHSA Nationals; Harrsch Earns National Title

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Action on day one at the 2014 IHSA National Championships, hosted by the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, has concluded and the Mount Holyoke College equestrian team is currently sixth of 10 competing teams. Highlighting today's action was an outstanding finish from senior Felicia Harrsch, who won the National title in individual competition.

Harrsch, a native of nearby Lansdale, Pa., captured the National Championship title in the Individual Open Equitation Over Fences event. Her effort eclipsed 15 other riders. Also in action individually was junior Maddi Shortt (Eugene, Ore.), who placed third overall in Novice Equitation on the Flat.

Additionally, senior Nell Maynard (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was eighth in Intermediate Equitation over Fences.

In the team competition, three events were held on the opening day of action for the Collegiate Cup. Pacing the effort was junior Jess Murray (East Longmeadow, Mass.), who finished fifth overall in Novice Equitation on the Flat.

Sophomore Genevieve Couldwell (Salt Lake City, Utah) placed sixth in Novice Equitation Over Fences, while junior Heather Zadra (Laguna Hills, Calif.) finished fifth in the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat event.

Centenary currently leads the field after day one. Mount Holyoke is locked in a tie for sixth with St. Lawrence University - the defending co-National Champion.
