With longtime head coach C.J. Law leading the way, the Mount Holyoke riding team maintained its reputation as one of the top programs in the country in 2011-12. The Lyons returned to the IHSA National Championships, taking fourth place overall. They finished atop the Zone 1, Region 3 standings and later secured the Zone 1 High Point Championship.

Margaret Swanson Out of their eight regular season shows, they picked up seven High Point Championships and a Reserve High Point title.

Mount Holyoke also took home top honors at the prestigious Tournament of Champions for the fifth time in program history.

Leading the way was senior Margaret Swanson, who competed in the prestigious Cacchione Cup Class at the National Championships after claiming regional and zone High Point Rider titles.

Swanson claimed High Point Rider honors at three regular season shows and finished the year as the region's High Point Flat Rider and Reserve High Point Fences Rider.

Alexa Lohrer
also enjoyed a productive season, finishing just behind Swanson in the regional Cacchione Cup standings. The sophomore was named High Point Open Fences Rider and Reserve High Point Open Flat Rider for the region after earning a pair of High Point Rider titles during the regular season.

Junior Paulina Erni (walk-trot) and senior Rebecca Hicks (novice flat) each qualified for the National Championships.

Meanwhile, first year Samantha Stone contributed seven points to Mount Holyoke's team total with her first place finish in the walk-trot-canter division at the National Championships. Sophomore Eleanor Maynard turned in a second place showing in the intermediate fences division. Meanwhile, first year Abby Raucher collected third place in the intermediate flat division. The team's remaining points came from Lohrer (open fences – 8th place) and first year Madeline Shortt (novice flat – 9th place).

A total of 18 Lyons qualified for the Regional Championships in 23 classes. Of those, seven went on to compete in the Zone Championships.
