Cross Country Finishes Second at James Earley Invitational; Selkin Claims Another Victory

Westfield, Mass. - October 9, 2021 - Standout junior Lauren Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) claimed her second victory of the 2021 season at the James Earley Invitational, hosted at Stanley Park on Saturday afternoon, leading the Mount Holyoke College cross country team to a second-place finish out of 24 teams on the 5k course. The Lyons scored 53 points on the day and outlasted teams such as Williams (80), Vassar (85) and Springfield (156).

Selkin finished 16 seconds faster than the runner up, crossing the line with a course-best time of 18:02.2. Next up for the Lyons was a pack of three finishing tenth, 11th, and 12th, comprised of senior Hannah Rieders (Arlington, Mass.) and classmates Madeline Rieders (Arlington, Mass.) and Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.). Hannah and Madeline ran season-best performances of 18:59.6 and 18:59.7, respectively, while Jacob finished with a course best of 19:02.8. Next up was first-year Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) who finished with a time of 19:32.3 followed by sophomore Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) who ran a personal-best time of 20:11.8. Rounding out the field was first-year Olivia Johnson (Mount Desert, Maine) who ran a personal best of 20:32.7 and classmate Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) who also recorded a personal best of 20:34.7.

Mount Holyoke also had six student-athletes compete in the JV race. The Lyons finished second overall scoring 53 points. Leading the pack was sophomore Emily Hood (Hardwick, Mass.) who claimed second overall with a personal-best time of 20:28.3 followed by classmate Lily Nemirovsky (Bedford, Mass.) who recorded a tenth-place finish with a season-best performance of 21:09.1. Next up for the Lyons was first-year Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) who finished 12th overall in the JV race with a season best of 21:18.3, directly followed by junior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) who finished with a time of 21:20.2. Rounding out the pack was junior Eliza Butler (Hartsdale, N.Y.) who finished with a time of 21:57.1 and first-year Julia Burm (Hingham, Mass.) who finished with a time of 23:35.6. 

Up next, the Mount Holyoke College cross country team will compete in the Connecticut College Invitational, hosted at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn. on Saturday, October 16.
