Track and Field Has Impressive Showing at Wesleyan Indoor Invitational

Middletown, Conn. - February 1, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College track and field team had an impressive day at the Wesleyan Indoor Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons had 13 student-athletes post personal-best results and five student-athletes post qualifying marks for the Division III New England Championship later this season.

Senior Caitlin Lynch (Princeton, Mass.) had one of the Lyons' top performances of the day in the high jump, as she cleared 1.57 meters, which was the second-best mark in the Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field program history. Lynch's result was also a career best and qualified her for the Division III New England Championship. 

Beginning the track events in the women's 5k, sophomore Sarah Hyde (Arlington, Mass.) took first overall with a career-best time of 19:42.51, just ahead of Sophia Gronbeck (Westfield, Mass.), who recorded a season-best time of 19:53.17. Also producing season-best times was Olivia Griesmer (Austin, Texas), who was third with a time of 20:10.56, Katie Milligan (Scituate, Mass.), who was fifth with a time of 20:32.98 and Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.), who was ninth, crossing in 21:20.74.

Next in the 60 meter hurdles, Isabelle Wohlin (Wellesley, Mass.) posted a third-place time of 9.97 seconds in the prelims, before crossing in 9.64 in the finals, finishing second overall. Wohlin's time of 9.64 seconds was No. 3 all-time and was a season-best for the junior, who also qualified for the Division III New England meet with that mark. 

First-year Rosemary Geib (Jamestown, R.I.) posted a time of 8.62 seconds in the 60 meter dash prelims, which was a personal-best time, as well as landing No. 9 all-time on the indoor track and field Top 10 list.

Mount Holyoke College had an impressive showing in the mile, as Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif.) was second overall with a time of 5:18.35, a Division III New England qualifying mark. Hannah Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) was fourth with a career-best time of 5:23.52 which was No. 6 all-time and Madeline Rieders (Wellesley, Mass.) was next with a career-best time of 5:23.54, which was No. 7 all-time. Both of the Rieders' times were Division III New England Qualifying mark. Additionally, Charlotte Lindblom (Takoma Park, Md.) had a career-best time of 5:58.90 in the mile and Emma Raney (Palo Alto, Calif.) had a season-best time of 5:43.24. 

In the 600 meter run, Eliza Butler (Scarsdale, N.Y.) posted a career-best time of 1:54.26, followed by personal-best time from Natalie Rodman (Upton, Mass.), who clocked in at 1:55.01. Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn.) posted a season-best time of 3:14.23 in the 1000 meter run, which was good for fourth, while Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) recorded a career-best time of 3:17.97 to finish sixth. Lindblom also had a season-best time of 3:38.25. 

The Lyons had three student-athletes post personal-best times in the 200 meter dash, including Wohlin who recorded a time of 27.42 seconds to finish seventh, Rodman who clocked in at 31.95 seconds and Sara Robillard (Defran, N.J.) who notched a time of 33.25 seconds. Leah Pendl-Robinson (Branford, Conn.) had a season-best time of 30.92 seconds in the 200 meter dash, while Butler also posted a season-best time, crossing in 30.49 seconds.

Raney was third in the women's 3k with a time of 11:42.50, while Marlena Klein (South Windsor, Conn.) posted a personal-best time of 12:21.91 and Sammi Craig (Austin, Texas) had a season-best time of 12:36.02. In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Nash, Jacob, Butler and Wohlin posted a career-best time of 4:24.00, which was also No. 9 all-time in the program's indoor track and field history.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will travel to Boston University on Friday, February 14 for the Valentine Invitational beginning at 4 p.m. before heading across the Charles River to the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday, February 8, which begins at 12 p.m.
