Track & Field Takes 5th at Middlebury Team Challenge

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - It was another solid meet of competition for the Mount Holyoke College indoor track & field team, which headed north to compete at the Middlebury College Team Challenge on Saturday. The Lyons posted 73 points on the day to take fifth overall. The homestanding Panthers won the women's event with 200 points.

The Lyons started strong, boasting a 1-2-3 finish in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Hannah Rieders earned the victory, crossing in a New England Division III Qualifying time of 18:39.62. Her sister, Madeline Rieders was next across the line, posting a mark of 18:41.58, which was also another NE D3 Qualifying time. It was a season's-best time for the siblings. Taking third overall was senior Hannah Gershone, who posted a time of 19:21.45 - which was also a personal-best.

In the 1-mile run, rookie Sydney Nash had a strong effort, earning eighth overall with a time of 5:31.64. That mark was also a season's-best, eclipsing her mark of 5:34.54 at the Massasoit Classic in January.

Rookie Michaela Phelan ran to fourth overall in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:56.52, while in the 60-meter dash, sophomore Isabelle Wohlin notched a time of 8.47, which was good for fifth at today's meet.

Sophomore Simone Jacob then powered her way to fourth overall in the 800-meter run, boasting a New England D3 Qualifying time of 2:21.89. That mark was also a new personal and season's-best mark.

The Lyons saw another solid effort in the 1000-meter run as senior Emsie Cronin took fourth overall with a time of 3:13.77 - a new personal record and a season's-best as well. She was followed by rookies Natalie Rodman and Charlotte Lindblom, who were sixth (3:33.88 - personal record) and seventh (3:36.95), respectively.

The 200-meter dash saw Wohlin record a season's-best 28.29 to take sixth overall, while in the 3,000-meter run, senior Corrin Moss recorded a personal-best time of 11:03.06 to take third overall. Rookie Jamie Day posted ninth in the event with a personal-best time of her own, crossing in 11:25.19.

In the field events, senior Julia Hecking posted fifth overall in the weight throw, achieving a mark of 12.87 meters (42-02.75). The triple jump saw Wohlin take seventh overall with a personal record and season's best mark of 9.90 meters (32-05.75), while first year Sarah Bishop was ninth with a personal-best jump of 9.37 meters (30-09.00).

The meet finished up with the 4x400-meter relay as Nash, Cronin, Rodman and Phelan combined to finish fifth overall. The group posted a score of 4:34.75.

Following the meet, the Lyons selected their team awards for the week. This week's winners saw Cronin named the Runner of the Week, Wohlin the Field Athlete of the Week and Rodman the Teammate of the Week.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next weekend its qualified athletes head to Bowdoin College to compete at the 2019 New England Division III Indoor Championships. Action begins on Friday and runs through Saturday.
