SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Mount Holyoke College Director of Athletics Lori Hendricks has announced that Dean Dumas has been named the assistant coach of the Lyons' cross country and track & field teams. He will work alongside head coach Chris Kibler.

"I am looking forward to working alongside Head Coach, Chris Kibler, to support the growth of the cross country and track and field program at Mount Holyoke College and I am excited for the program's future."

Dumas came to Mount Holyoke after serving as the interim head cross country coach and assistant track & field coach at nearby Amherst College. With the Mammoths during the 2016-17 season, he was responsible for organizing away and home meets, budgeting, recruiting, attending department meetings and planning daily workouts and practices.
Prior to his time at Amherst, Dumas was an assistant track & field coach at Smith College from 2014 through 2016. During that time, in which he was also earning his Masters Degree, Dumas worked to develop daily workouts, organized and directed home meets, while also developing a periodization plan. He also worked as an Outdoor Education Teaching Assistant, as well as an event monitor, which worked to set up, host and run athletic events in addition to supervising the athletics building.
From 2012-14, Dumas was the assistant track & field coach at Cony High School in Maine. He also served as a substitute teacher during that time within the Augusta School District.
A former All-American at the University of Southern Maine, Dumas continues to hold the Huskies' school record in the javelin, while also ranking second all-time in the pole vault. During his career, he was a four-time Little East Conference (LEC) champion in the pole vault and was named the LEC Field Athlete of the Year in three consecutive seasons. Dumas earned All-America honors in the pole vault (2011) and the javelin (2012), placing eighth and fifth, respectively.
Dumas has his certification in Technical Coaching from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while also having a certificate in Coaching Athletics from Southern Maine. Additionally, he has his coaching principles certification in Human Kinetics, while also having a licensure in Maine Recreational Guiding.
A 2012 graduate of Southern Maine, Dumas earned his Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies. He was awarded his Master in Exercise and Sports Studies from Smith College in 2016.
