Tennis Competes at Tennis Hall of Fame Grass Court Doubles Championships

Newport, R.I. - September 20, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College tennis team had an impressive showing at the 2019 Grass Court Outdoor Championships, hosted at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. on Friday afternoon.

The Lyons had six student-athletes in action, including Ching-Ching Huang (Lukang Township, Taiwan) and Annissa Aamoum (Dulles, Va.), who competed in Doubles Flight A, Anya Gerasimova (Salem, Ore.) and Catherine Peabody (San Francisco, Calif.) who competed in Doubles Flight B and Hannah Middleton (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and Shweta Kiran Cavale (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India), who competed in Doubles Flight C.

Huang and Aamoum opened up the day with a victory over Rachel Tarantino and Angelique Gray from Bridgewater State, 8-1 in the Quarterfinals, before dropping an 8-3 decision to Isabelle Leonardi and Amarie Settiwongse of Nichols. 

For Gerasimova and Peabody, the tournament opened with an 8-0 win over Olivia Sweeney and Vanessa Rosa of Bridgewater State in the Quarterfinals before dropping an 8-3 match to Juliana Herrera and Megan Nathanson of Nichols, 8-3.

In Doubles Flight C, Cavale and Middleton defeated Nina Brance and Laura Krick of Salve Regina in the Quarterfinals, but fell to Lindsey Kaplan and Kara Stankewitz of Nichols, 8-4 in the Semifinals.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will compete at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted at Middlebury College beginning on Friday, September 27.
