Rowing Opens 2019-20 Campaign at Green Mountain Headrace

Putney, Vt. - September 29, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team opened the 2019-20 season at the Green Mountain Headrace on Sunday afternoon, as the Lyons had eight student-athletes competing in collegiate doubles. All four boats for Mount Holyoke College were able to finish in the top 10 of the women's collegiate doubles competition.

The Lyons were led by the duo of Hannah LeBlanc (Portland, Ore.) and Elizabeth Hazen (Brookline, Mass.), who took second overall with a time of 22:14.5, as they were followed by Johanna Van Fleet (Bow, N.H.) and Shoshi Daniels (Rye, N.Y.), who turned in a time of 24:25 to finish eighth overall. Taking ninth overall was Sarah Lancaster (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Audrey Shannon (Milton, Ga.) with a time of 25:33, as they were followed by Piper Kilgore (Deerfield, N.H.) and Sabina Morris (New York, N.Y.), who finished 10th with a time of 26:14.4.

"As a program we really value the challenge of rowing and racing the small boats.  The timing and location of the Green Mountain Headrace is a perfect way to test out what we've learned in the early season," said Mount Holyoke College head rowing coach Seth Hussey. "We don't scull a lot from here on out due to collegiate racing's focus on the eights, as well as the cold water temperatures of the spring season. That being said, the lessons of today will stay with us and help us grow significantly faster as the season unfolds."

The Lyons will resume competition on Saturday, October 5 as Mount Holyoke College will travel to Fairfield, Conn. for the Tail of the Housatonic at 9 a.m.
