Under the direction of 10th-year head coach Michelle Scecina, the Mount Holyoke basketball team posted a record of 6-19 during the 2013-14 season. The Lyons went 3-17 in NEWMAC play, anchored by junior forward Amber Legare, who was an All-Conference selection.

MHC opened the season on a high note, recording three straight wins. Two of those victories came during the Maine Maritime Tip-Off Tournament, where the Lyons defeated Bates (77-63) and Maine Maritime (51-38) to capture the tournament crown. Legare was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, while captain and guard Kate Karraker was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Mount Holyoke followed that up with a victory over WPI to open the NEWMAC slate. The Lyons posted a 43-38 win over the Engineers paced by Legare's double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The squad hit a rough patch, but rebounded to open the 2014 slate. MHC recorded a 54-38 victory at Simmons, backed by Karraker's game-high 22 points and junior forward Nicole DeMarchena's game-best 17 rebounds.

Following a last-second 56-55 loss to Wheaton in late January, the Lyons responded a game later with a 61-59 win at Clark. Legare's layup with two second remaining sealed the victory.

MHC went on to defeat NEWMAC-newcomer Emerson (68-60) in February. That contest saw Legare record 20 points and a single-game record 26 rebounds – the previous record of 25 had been held by Elise Cromack since the 1985-86 campaign.

Leading the team in scoring was Legare, who averaged 14.7 points and a NEWMAC-best 11.2 rebounds per contest. She was one of just two players in the conference to average a double-double and the only player to average double figures in both categories from the start to finish of the season. Legare also added 28 assists, 30 blocks and 38 steals as a starter in 24 of 25 games. Karraker was second overall, averaging 14.2 points per game, including a 38.9% (81-of-208) from three-point range.

Sophomore guard Genelle Green averaged 6.9 points per game with a team-best 43 steals, while DeMarchena and senior guard Jennine Vizcaino recorded squad-bests in blocks (58) and assists (64), respectively.

At season's end, Legare was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team, while senior guards Katie Dupuis and Kathleen O'Connor were Academic All-Conference selections.
