Riding Continues Action at 2013 IHSA National Championships

HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 3, 2013) - Action at day two of the 2013 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships has concluded and the Mount Holyoke College equestrian team is tied for fifth overall. The event, which is being hosted at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, featured a number of strong rides from the Lyons competitors.

St. Lawrence University, the 2012 IHSA Champion, continues to lead the field after the second day of action with 22 points. Skidmore College remains second with 15 points, followed by Stanford University (14 points), Savannah College of Art & Design (13) and Delaware Valley and Mount Holyoke (11 each).

Posting fourth overall in the Collegiate Cup Walk Trot Canter class was junior Samantha Stone (Stoneham, Mass./Masconomet). Also riding solid was sophomore Callie Calder (Manhattan, N.Y./United Nations International School), who placed sixth overall in the Collegiate Cup Walk Trot.

Junior Eleanor Maynard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) finished eighth overall in the Collegiate Cup Intermediate Fences, while junior Alexa Lohrer (Carlisle, Mass./Concord Carlisle) had beautiful rides in the Cacchione Cup fences and flat phase, but unfortunately did not make it into the top-10 of that event, which will continue competing on Saturday.

Several competitors, including Lohrer, return to action in the Collegiate Cup event on Saturday. Mount Holyoke western rider Rui Nozaki will also compete on Sunday.
