Riding Concludes Action at Tournament of Champions

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (Jan. 26, 2013) – The Mount Holyoke College equestrian team returned to competition on Saturday, competing in the final leg of the 2012-13 Tournament of Champions Series. The Lyons finished 11th overall in the Winter Tournament and ended up third overall in the final series standings.

Junior Felicia Harrsch got things going for the Lyons early Saturday morning, taking fourth overall in Open Fences. She was followed by sophomore Abby Raucher, who took the eighth spot in Intermediate Fences.

Sophomore Jessica Murray then finished second in Novice Flat, while junior Alexa Lohrer was fourth in Open Flat after an interesting ride in which her horse managed to pick up a counter canter. Sophomore Callie Calder followed up with third overall in the Walk Trot, while senior Clara Tate had an outstanding ride in Intermediate Flat.

Lyons' sophomore Samantha Stone and first year Genevieve Couldwell then finished fourth and reserve in Walk Trot Canter and Novice Fences, respectively. In the medal, Lohrer had an outstanding ride on the flat, which moved her into the jumping phase, while junior Ella Pittman had a good flat ride on a strong horse. After a solid fences round, Lohrer finished ninth.

Mount Holyoke finished 11th overall with 18 points while the two Bridgewater teams walked away with champion and reserve champion.

Champion - Bridgewater Crimson (35pts), reserve Bridgewater Gold (31), 3rd - Del Val (30), 4th - Berry College (28), 5th - St. Andrew's (26), 6th - University of Mary Washington (21), 7th - Penn State (21), 8th - Ohio U (19), 9th - UNH (19), 10th- Otterbein (18), 11th - MHC (18)
