With 26th year head coach C.J. Law leading the way, the Mount Holyoke riding team was once again dominant in 2009-10. The Lyons returned to the IHSA National Championships for the 19th time in program history, taking seventh place overall. They finished atop the Zone 1, Region 3 standings and later secured the Zone 1 High Point Championship.
Mount Holyoke was privileged to host Roel Theunissen at a dressage clinic from June 22-24. Riders from all over New England shipped in to work with Theunissen, a highly sought-after clinician and trainer based in Madison, Georgia.
Junior Lindsay Sceats has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of May 3-9 after helping the riding team to a seventh place finish at the IHSA National Championships. Sceats captured top honors in the prestigious Cacchione Cup Class to highlight the weekend for Mount Holyoke. The team captain became the third rider in program history to achieve the feat.
In recognition of two decades of service, support and dedication to its organization, the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association recently presented its 2009-10 Pioneer Award to Jack and Kate Benson at Centenary College. Katie (Plum) Benson served as a captain for longtime head coach C.J. Law during her first season (1984-85) at Mount Holyoke College.

The Mount Holyoke College Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Squash Head Coach Allen Fitzsimmons served as the events emcee. Soccer team member Lauren Orr earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.
Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration this evening, 17 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 11 teams were honored as part of the College's second annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.
