Riding Participates in Holiday Tournament of Champions Show

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Dec. 5, 2009) – Sixteen members of the Mount Holyoke College riding team traveled to Hackettstown, N.J. to participate in the prestigious Holiday Tournament of Champions Horse Show on Saturday. The event, which featured some of the best collegiate equestrian teams from around the nation, was hosted by Centenary College. A total of 21 teams representing 18 institutions took part.

Centenary dominated the competition, taking both High Point and Reserve High Point honors. Its teams finished with 43 and 25 points, respectively. Mount Holyoke’s two entries collected 22 points apiece and finished in a three way tie with Lynchburg College for third place overall.

First year Sally Gibb captured a blue ribbon in her section of the novices fences division. The Lyons also received first place performances from first year Paulina Erni and junior Belinda Wenke in the walk-trot division.

Junior Lindsay Sceats advanced to the jumping phase of the medal class but did not place. She was joined by first year Allison O’Neill in the competition.

Mount Holyoke is slated to compete in the Tournament of Champions Winter Classic on January 23 at Averett College in Danville, Va. The Lyons will enter the spring portion of their schedule leading the University of Massachusetts by 12 points in the Zone 1, Region 3 standings.
