Riding Takes High Point Title at Home Show
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Nov. 7, 2009) – Following the lead of junior Lindsay Sceats and sophomore Margaret Swanson, the Mount Holyoke College riding team closed out the fall portion of its 2009-10 slate with a High Point Championship at its fall home show on Saturday. It was the Lyons third high point title of the season. They will enter the spring with a 12 point lead over the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the Zone 1, Region 3 standings.
Sceats was crowned High Point Rider after taking top honors in her sections of open flat and open fences. Meanwhile, Swanson secured both Reserve High Point Rider and Reserve High Point Intermediate Rider accolades after winning her class of the intermediate flat division and taking second place in her section of the intermediate fences division.
Mount Holyoke piled up 46 points on the day to secure the title. The University of Massachusetts Amherst took home Reserve High Point honors with 35 points, while the College of the Holy Cross (22), Smith College (21), Williams College (19), Becker College (18), Amherst College (13), Assumption College (12), Springfield College (12), Hampshire College (10), Westfield State College (8), Clark University (3) and Landmark College (1) rounded out the 13 team field.
The Lyons racked up 13 blue ribbons overall. In addition to Sceats and Swanson, senior Tara Bliss (novice fences), first year Paulina Erni (walk-trot), first year Sally Gibb (novice fences), senior Jacqueline Knutson (novice flat), first year Jessica Law (beginner walk-trot-canter), sophomore Jordan McMullen (novice flat), first year Allison O’Neill (intermediate flat), sophomore Amanda Ross (walk-trot-canter), first year Clara Tate (novice fences), junior Elizabeth Tripp (open flat) and junior Belinda Wenke (walk-trot) each posted first place finishes.
Mount Holyoke is scheduled to take part in the Holiday Tournament of Champions on Saturday, December 5. The event will be hosted by Centenary College in Hackettstown, N.J.
