Mount Holyoke College Discontinues Varsity Golf Program

Mount Holyoke College Discontinues Varsity Golf Program

Lyons Nation,

Mount Holyoke College has made the difficult decision to discontinue its varsity golf program effective immediately.

This decision came after an extensive review of many factors, including student interest, indoor practice needs, competitive season, coaching support and conference alignment. This decision will allow the Department of Physical Education and Athletics to reallocate the resources from the program to support the broader-reaching priorities of the departmental strategic plan, enhancing the overall student-athlete experience at Mount Holyoke.

The home course for the Lyons, The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, remains one of the premiere golf courses in Western Massachusetts. Mount Holyoke College students, employees and alums will still be able to access The Orchards. Our intention is to work with The Orchards to increase student access to the course through recreational and intramural opportunities.

The program's history dates back to the 1975-76 academic year and will be remembered through the student-athletes that have excelled among the nation's top competition and multiple appearances at the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Mount Holyoke College will continue to honor the history of the program, its tremendous golf alums and committed coaches.

Sincerely,

Lori Hendricks '92
Chair of Physical Education and Director of Athletics
