Selkin wins second straight race, leads cross country to 10th at UMass Darmouth invite

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior Lauren Selkin took first place for the second time in as many races this season, leading Mount Holyoke College cross country to a 10th-place team finish out of 38 teams on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational.

The Lyons were also sixth among 29 Division III teams in the race.

Selkin (Greenwich, Conn.) outraced runner-up Ashley Corcoran of Division II Southern New Hampshire by 7.3 seconds, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 17:49.3 for a pace of 5:44.1 per mile, topping a field of 285 runners in the Women's Varsity 5K. It is the fourth career collegiate cross country victory for Selkin, who was an NCAA Championship competitor in 2021.

Mount Holyoke scored 350 points, good for 10th place overall between two Division II squads: ninth-place Saint Anselm (294) and 11th-place Adelphi (362).

Sophomore Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) finished 35th overall to cross the finish line second for Mount Holyoke, with a time of 18:54.1. Following Lancaster in the team scoring were junior Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) in 73rd place (6:17.7), sophomore Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) in 102nd (19:59.9) and sophomore Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) in 149th (20:37.5).

Junior Lily Nemirovsky (Bedford, Mass.) finished 151st (20:40.3) and senior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) 199th (21:39.4) as Mount Holyoke's two scoring displacers.

Three Mount Holyoke runners competed in the Women's JV 5K race at the meet: senior Amanda Kearney (Teaneck, N.J.) finished 66th out of 120 runners in 22:42.2, whiel first-year Emma Quirk (Middleton, Mass.) placed 82nd (23:39.0), and senior Eliza Butler (Hartsdale, N.Y.) came in 93rd (24:20.5).

Mount Holyoke next races at the Purple Valley Classic in Williamstown, Mass., on Oct. 1 at 12pm.
