The Mount Holyoke College cross country team had a solid effort in the 2016 campaign, powering its way to five top-10 finishes under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Jennifer Adams. Leading the way was first year Brigit Wolf, sophomore Corrin Moss and junior Mia Barnes, who all crossed the line first for the Lyons in two races.
MHC kicked-off its season at the Smith College Invitational, placing seventh overall. First year Brigit Wolf paced the way in 24th, turning in a time of 22:05.26 in the 5k event. The Lyons focus then shifted to the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational the following weekend. Finishing second overall as a team in the 5k sub-varsity race, MHC saw Wolf lead the way with an 18th place finish. She had a time of 20:49.01 to lead the way.
Next up was the Saratoga Invitational, where the Lyons placed 10th overall. Moss who ran to a time of 20:00.8 was Mount Holyoke's top finisher at 49th. Wolf finished right on her heels in a time of 20:04.1, good for 50th.
At the Open New England Championships on October 8, the Lyons began their charge into championship season in solid fashion. The squad finished 35th overall at the multi-divisional event, paced by Barnes, who was 128th overall with a time of 21:04.02.
Moss once again paced the way at the Seven Sisters Championship, finishing 31 in the 6k race with a mark of 24:51.3. Barnes was close behind her with a time of 25:17.6, good for 36th, while Wolf finished 37th overall with a time of 25:18.5.
The Lyons headed up the road for the NEWMAC Championship, hosted by Smith College at the end of October. First year Alicia Moroyoqui crossed the line in a time of 21:11 at the 5k event, placing 42nd overall. Moss was just seconds behind, finishing 51st with a time of 21:18, while Wolf rounded out the top-three finishers in 56th with a mark of 21:32.
Mount Holyoke concluded its season at the NCAA New England Regional Championships. Led by a 194th place effort from Barnes, the Lyons finished 39th overall as a team in the 6k event.
The Lyons also had a very strong year academically with six runners named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team. The recipients were Barnes, Moss and juniors Julia Criscione and Kelly Stevens, sophomore Emsie Cronin and senior Brianna Weir. Moroyoqui was also named to the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
