Swimming & Diving Rolls Past St. Joseph, 144-123

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (Dec. 8, 2012) - Powered by victories in 14 of 16 events on the afternoon, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team defeated the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) by a 144-123 margin. With the win, the Lyons improve to 4-1 in dual meet action this season. The BlueJays are now 1-3 in dual meet competition.

Mount Holyoke was led by a pair of victories from senior Caitlin Lewis (Plainville, Conn./Plainville), who won the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 31.12. Lewis (pictured on right) also helped the 200-yard medley relay team to victory with a mark of 2:10.57.

Other members of the relay included sophomore Zisiga Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya/Brookhouse International School), first year Kelsey Price (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and junior Leah Townsend (Wakefield, Mass./Austin Prepatory).

Sophomore Eve Bettman (Altadena, Calif./Flint Ridge Prep.) won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:18.32, while

Junior captain Joselyn Auxer (Shepherdstown, W.V./Jefferson) was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.27, while first year Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravencroft School) won the 200-yard free in a time of 1:59.06. She also touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.02).

Other winners included junior Lauren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica/Baylor School (Tenn.), who captured the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.40 and touched the wall first in the 50-yard back (29.09).

Senior Lindsey Kanno (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) claimed victory in the 100-yard free with a time of 58.08 and the 50-yard breast (33.17), while senior Cori Magnusson (Brentwood, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) was also a winner in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:23.26.

In the diving, sophomore Catrina Bellucci-DiLizia (Springfield, Mass./Home schooled) won off the 1-meter with a score of 179.25 points.

Mount Holyoke is now idle for the holiday break, but returns to the pool on Friday, January 11 when it competes in a tri-match against Clark and Wheaton at 1pm. The match will be hosted at Wheaton.
