SETTING THE SCENE: Mount Holyoke College opens up the 2018 season against the Fighting Scots of Gordon College. It marks the third meeting in program history, dating back to 2008. The Fighting Scots earned victories in both matchups, with the most recent contest being in 2017.

THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (0-0) opens the 2018 campaign with a wealth of experience as five starters who appeared in all 16 games last season return. The Lyons bring back most of its offensive fire-power, returning four of its top-five goal-scorers. Senior attacker Leila Kouakou led all returners with 34 goals in 2017, while classmate and midfielder Kaitlin Braz was the 2017 leader in assists (12) and points (44). The Lyons also return a stout defense that caused 118 turnovers last year. In net, MHC will see three battle for time between the pipes, including sophomore Mia Wysocki, who played in 14 games a season ago.

THE FIGHTING SCOTS: Gordon (0-0) opens up the season after going .500 last year's with a 9-9 record. The Fighting Scots bring in a young team returning five starters from last years roster, but lost four of the top-five scorers. Junior Anna Rourke leads all returners in goals (7), assists (5), ground balls (26), caused turnover (13), and draw controls (16). The Scots are projected to start junior keeper Melanie Dwyer, who started in 16 of 18 games last year.

UP NEXT: Mount Holyoke will take its first roadtrip of the season on Wednesday to face Skidmore College at 6:00pm. Gordon will be back in action on Thursday, facing Worcester State at 4:00pm.
