WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 15, 2010) – With junior attacker Clara Raugei leading the way, the Mount Holyoke College women’s lacrosse team raced to a 20-5 victory over non-conference foe Norwich University today at Lake Lytal Park. It was the first of three spring break games for the Lyons, who are taking part in the annual SpringFling this week. With their second straight win, they remained perfect in two contests against the Cadets.

Raugei was nearly unstoppable for Mount Holyoke, which racked up 20 goals for the second time in a row. The attacker tied her career high with six goals and added a pair of assists. Her eight points were a personal best.

The Lyons also received a boost from sophomore midfielder Hilary Bombard, whose five points and four goals were both career bests. Senior midfielders Perry Markell and Peggy Wefald recorded hat tricks, while junior defender Georgia Markell chipped in with two goals and a helper. The elder Markell also came up with nine draw controls.

Leading the way for Norwich was sophomore midfielder Kacey Abbriano, who found the back of the net three times. The Cadets remaining two tallies came from senior defender Ally Allen.

After surrendering the first three goals of the day, Norwich battled back to make the score 4-3 midway through the opening frame. From there, it was all Mount Holyoke. The Lyons built an 8-4 edge at the break and outscored the Cadets 12-1 in the second stanza to win going away.

The Lyons finished with large advantages in shots (34-9), draw controls (21-6) and ground balls (14-6). Sophomore goalkeeper Jeanmarie Petersen made two saves en route to the win, while junior Erin McGaffigan stopped nine shots in a losing effort for the Cadets.

Mount Holyoke (2-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) will resume its spring break trip against Keene State College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
