Seven Lyons Named CRCA Scholar Athletes


SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (May 25, 2010) – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) recently announced its Scholar Athletes for the 2010 season. Seven members of Mount Holyoke College’s crew team were selected as a result of their achievements both on the water and in the classroom.

Mount Holyoke’s Scholar Athletes were sophomore Hannah Blackmer, sophomore Emily Carol, junior Sarah Friedman, senior Amanda McGrosky, junior Cleo Schneider, senior Jessica Suhowatsky and sophomore Rebekah Wieland.

All seven Lyons achieved the following criteria set forth by the CRCA: The student-athlete was in her second, third or fourth year of eligibility; The student-athlete rowed in her institution’s NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event; The Head Coach of the student-athlete’s institution was a member in good standing of the CRCA as of May 1, 2010; The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
