Crew Meets Up With Tufts, Simmons and Vermont

MALDEN, Mass. (April 3, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women's crew team faced off against Tufts University, Simmons College and the University of Vermont today on the Malden River. By way of their results today, the Lyons first and second varsity eight boats remained undefeated against Division III competition.

Both squads picked up convincing victories over Tufts. In the varsity eight race, Mount Holyoke defeated the Jumbos by more than 11 seconds with its time of 6:51.59. Meanwhile, the Lyons second varsity boat won with a time of 7:04.23.

Mount Holyoke’s novice eight boat took part in a pair of races. It posted a winning time of 7:23.86 against Simmons but fell to Tufts with a time of 7:31.40. The Lyons second novice boat was also defeated by Tufts after crossing the line in 8:06.96.

In the final race of the day, a Mount Holyoke boat consisting of rowers from its first and second varsity boat was downed by Division I Vermont. The Lyons posted a time of 7:01.84.

Mount Holyoke is slated to compete against Trinity College, Smith College and Simmons next Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
