Crew Takes Top Honors at Snake Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass. (Oct. 10, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College crew team posted outstanding results today at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta. A total of five boats represented the Lyons at the competition, which took place on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

Mount Holyoke’s first varsity eight boat took home top honors in its race, crossing the line in 16:49.914. The Lyons finished five seconds in front of Bates College and also defeated the College of the Holy Cross, Wellesley College, Connecticut College, Colby College, WPI, Tufts University and Roger Williams University. Coxswain Mya Steadman was joined in the boat by Clare Enright, Cleo Schneider, Jessica Suhowatsky, Ellen Bledsoe, Hannah Blackmer, Elizabeth Brown, Robyn Kranzler and Kirstie Young.

The Lyons second varsity eight boat took part in the same race, earning second place among the number two entries. It’s time of 18:05 was good for eighth place overall. Also participating in the event were Mount Holyoke’s first novice eight (19th – 19:58), third varsity eight (21st – 20:10) and second novice eight (23rd – 21:12) boats. A total of 25 teams competed overall.

Mount Holyoke is slated to wrap up its 2009-10 fall schedule at the Seven Sisters Championship on Saturday, October 24. The Lyons will be looking to capture their third consecutive title at the event, which will take place on the Charles River in Boston, Mass.
