    Led by ninth-year head coach Michelle Scecina, the Mount Holyoke basketball team posted an overall record of 5-18 during the 2012-13 campaign. The Lyons were led in scoring for the fourth straight season by Pascual, who averaged 14.5 points per game and was selected to play in the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic at season's end. Legare added 11.6 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per contest.

    NEWBA recently announced its selections to the Senior All-Star Classic and Mount Holyoke College senior Angelica Pascual was among 22 participants chosen for this year’s game. The game will be hosted by Western New England University on Saturday, March 23 at 1pm.

    Despite a game-best 21 points from senior Angelica Pascual, the Mount Holyoke College basketball team could not overcome a strong Wheaton College front, falling 64-52 on Saturday in NEWMAC action. With the win, Wheaton finishes with a 9-16 record, going 6-12 in league play. MHC wraps-up its season with a 5-18 mark and a 3-15 record in the NEWMAC.
  • Basketball Suffers NEWMAC Loss at Springfield

    The Springfield College women's basketball team put together a complete effort to power past visiting Mount Holyoke College, 55-38, on Wednesday evening Blake Arena. With the win, the Pride snapped its six-game slide to improve to 4-19, 2-15 in NEWMAC play. The Lyons fall to 5-17, 3-14.
  • Basketball Tripped Up at Coast Guard, 65-47

    Freshman Victoria Sutherland led four Coast Guard players in double figures as the Bears defeated Mount Holyoke, 65-47 in a NEWMAC contest. The game, originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved as a result of Winter Storm Nemo. With the victory Coast Guard (9-12, 7-9) moves into sole possession of fifth place in the NEWMAC standings while Mount Holyoke (5-16, 3-13) is eliminated from postseason contention with the defeat.
  • Basketball Shoulders Tough Loss to WPI on Senior Night

    A total of six players reached double-figures in the contest, but it was the visiting Engineers that came out on top as Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) held off Mount Holyoke College, 65-52 on Senior Night in NEWMAC action on Wednesday evening. With the victory, WPI moves to 13-8 overall and 9-6 in conference play, while the Lyons slip to 5-15 and 3-12 in the NEWMAC.

    The MIT women’s basketball team saw four players reach double-digits as it defeated Mount Holyoke College, 57-44, in a NEWMAC contest on Saturday. Freshman Sabrina Drammis led all scorers with 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in leading the Engineers (9-11, 5-9) to their first series sweep of the Lyons. Sophomore Amber Legare paced Mount Holyoke (5-14, 3-11) with 12 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.

    Senior captain Angelica Pascual poured in a game-best 22 points, including six three-pointers, and two others reached double figures as Mount Holyoke College held off Clark University, 61-59 in NEWMAC women’s basketball action on Wednesday. With the win, the Lyons move to 5-13 overall and are now 3-10 in conference play. The Cougars slip to 11-9 with a 6-7 NEWMAC record.

    Despite a 38-25 scoring advantage in the second half, the Mount Holyoke College basketball team could not get past visiting Babson College, falling 70-52 in NEWMAC action on Saturday. The #22 Beavers, led by game-high double-double efforts from senior forward Sarah Collins, improves to 17-2 overall and remain perfect in league play with a 12-0 mark. The Lyons slip to 4-13 and 2-10 in the NEWMAC.

    The Smith College basketball team overcame some early shooting woes to post a 65-44 victory over Mount Holyoke College in NEWMAC game on Wednesday night. The Pioneers are now 15-2 overall, and 10-1 against league foes. Mount Holyoke is now 4-12 with a 2-9 mark against NEWMAC opposition.
  • Karraker Tabbed to NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll

    The NEWBA has released its weekly awards and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Kate Karraker was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after her performance last week. Highlighting her week was a career-best 25 points in an 86-82 double-overtime victory against Springfield, where she shot a blistering 7-for-7 from three-point range and added a career-high five steals.

    Wellesley College basketball used hot shooting, balanced offense, and stifling defense to grab its fifth consecutive victory with a 65-35 win over Mount Holyoke on Saturday afternoon at Keohane Sports Center. The Blue, who shot 51% from the floor – their second best performance of the season -- now stand at 8-6 on the year, 7-3 in NEWMAC play. The Lyons drop to 4-11 overall, 2-8 in the conference.

With the victory, the Bears move to 6-7 overall and 4-4 in league play, while the Lyons slip to 3-10 and 1-8 in the NEWMAC.

With the victory, the Blue improve to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the league. The Lyons, who saw senior Angelica Pascual record the 1,000th point of her career early in the second half, slip to 3-8 and 1-5 in the NEWMAC.

    The NEWMAC announced its weekly awards for the period ending January 6 and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Amber Legare has been recognized. The sophomore forward was named the Player of the Week in women’s basketball following an outstanding effort last week for the Lyons.

    In a battle of the Lyons, Mount Holyoke College came out victorious as it defeated Wheaton College by a score of 51-49 in NEWMAC action on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, MHC improves to 3-7 overall and is now 1-4 in conference play. The Lyons of Wheaton slip to 5-6 and 2-3 in the NEWMAC.

    Fresh off its holiday break, the Mount Holyoke College basketball team saw three players reach double-figures as the Lyons posted a 70-51 non-conference win over Simmons College on Thursday. MHC, which was led by a game-high 18 points from senior Angelica Pascual, improves to 2-7 overall. The Sharks slip to 1-7 on the season.

  • Basketball Falls to Keene State in Tip-Off Championship Final

    Three players reached double-figures for Mount Holyoke College, but Keene State College proved to be too much as the host Owls won 67-50 to captured their 15th straight title at the 2012 Keene State Tip-Off. The Lyons slip to 1-1 on the season, while the Owls are now 2-0 overall.
  • Basketball Victorious in Season Opener; Defeats Mount Ida, 70-44

    The Mount Holyoke College basketball team kicked off its 2012-13 campaign in fine fashion on Friday evening with a 70-44 victory over Mount Ida College at the Keene State Tip-Off Tournament. The Lyons will now face the host Owls, who defeated York (N.Y.) by a 96-36 margin, on Saturday in the championship game at 3pm. The win was also the 100th career victory for head coach Michelle Scecina.
