Riding Claims High Point College Title at Williams College Show

Williamstown, Mass. - October 16, 2021 -
On Saturday, the Mount Holyoke Hunt Seat team had their second show of the regular season at Bonnie Lea Farm, home of the Williams College Equestrian Team, and finished the day with 39 points to win the High Point College award. Senior Sierra Dunn (Florence, Mass.) led the Lyons, earning the overall High Point Rider title. Dunn was also named High Point Intermediate Rider for the day.

The first class of the day was Open Fences. Captain Sara Hearn (Tallahasee, Fla.) had a gorgeous ride to win the class.

Next up, Chloe Truett (Owensboro, Ky.) and Dunn entered the ring for the first section of Intermediate Fences. They had beautiful rounds, with Truett taking first in her IHSA debut, and Dunn placing second. The second section of Intermediate Fences saw Tori Fletcher (Branford, Conn.) and Georgia Fish (Baltimore, Md.) have strong rides, to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Next in the ring were three sections of Limit Fences. In the first section, Kristina Honour (Lake Forest, Ill.), Caroline Sullivan (Groton, Mass.), and assistant manager Acadia Ferrero-Lampron (Denver, Colo.) had fantastic rides. Ferrero-Lampron placed fourth, Sullivan placed fifth, and Honour finished just out of the ribbons. In the second section, Emmie Mirarchi (Harvard, Mass.) and Lila McDougall (Shirley, Mass.) had beautiful rides, with McDougall finishing fourth, and Mirarchi finishing just out of the ribbons. Shemica Adenwalla (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), Claire Williams (Zionsville, Ind.), and Hayley Halloran (Lewes, Del.) entered the ring next for the final section of Limit Fences. All three riders had strong rides, with Halloran winning the class, Adenwalla taking fourth, and Williams placing fifth.

Alumni classes were next in the ring. In Alumni Fences, MHC alumna Emma Recchi '19 had a lovely round to place third. Recchi came back with a beautiful ride in Alumni Flat, winning the class. 

The flat portion of the day began with two of the four sections of Limit Flat. In the first section, Sullivan and Truett returned to the arena. Sullivan placed fourth and Truett placed just out of the ribbons, but both had very strong rides. In the second section, Mirarchi and Camille Cheng (Goleta, Calif.) had lovely rides, finishing first and fourth respectively. Next in the arena was Open Flat, in which Hearn returned to the arena with a beautiful ride to place fourth.

The last two sections of Limit Flat followed. In the third section, Fish returned to the arena with a fantastic ride to finish fourth. In the final section of Limit Flat, seniors Kristina Lester (West Suffield, Conn.) and Fletcher had lovely rides, finishing first and fifth, respectively.

Next in the arena were two sections of Intermediate Flat. In the first section, Dunn returned to the arena with a gorgeous ride to finish first. In the second section, Honour returned to the arena, riding beautifully to place fifth.

Next, Azuna Sawada (Kawasaki, Japan) and Alina Yuk (Northvale, N.J.) had great rides in the first section of Introductory, with Sawada placing second and Yuk placing sixth in her IHSA debut. In the second section of Introductory, senior and Francis Perkins Scholar Hope Coss (Shoreline, Wash.) had a lovely ride, placing first, while sophomore Blair Yuk (Northvale, N.J.) placed second in her IHSA debut.

Next up was the first section of Pre-Novice, where Yixuan He (Nanjing, China) had a gorgeous ride to place first and point into Novice. In the second section of Pre-Novice, Dekyi Deji (Beijing, China) made her IHSA debut with a stunning ride, also placing first.

The day wrapped up with two sections of Novice. In the first section, sophomores Chloe McElveen  (Ridgeland, S.C.) and Sunita Pearson-Siegel (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had strong rides, placing third and fourth, respectively. Marlene Healey (Coventry, Conn.) and Anna Kuffler (Glenside, Pa.) had lovely rides in the second section of Novice, with Healey placing sixth and Kuffler placing third in her IHSA debut.

At the end of the day, Dunn was called back to the ring for additional testing for the High Point Rider award. She had an amazing ride to end up earning the overall High Point Rider title. Dunn was also named High Point Intermediate Rider for the day.

Mount Holyoke finished the day with 39 points to win the High Point College award. UMass Amherst followed with 35 points. 

Congratulations to Kristina Lester for qualifying for regionals in Limit Flat in the spring!

The Lyons will continue the regular season at their first home show on Saturday, October 30. If the weather allows, this show will be held outdoors and spectators will be allowed but must wear masks.
