SETTING THE SCENE: Mount Holyoke welcomes the Pioneers of Smith on Tuesday for the 64th time in program history. The first match dates back to 1974, which saw Smith defeat the Lyons. The Pioneers own a 43-21 series advantage. In the last match in 2015, Smith bested MHC, 3-1.

THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (5-15; 0-8 NEWMAC) enters Tuesday after winning two of its last three games. In tri-match action this past weekend, the Lyons split, picking up a 3-0 win over Westfield. MHC then fell to Daniel Webster, 3-1. In the win, first year middle hitter Sasha Simine led the match with 12 kills and also turned in a match-best, 5 blocks. In the loss, sophomore middle hitter Joy Maran led the game with her season high, 15 strikes. For the year, Maran leads the squad with 157 kills, whille Simine has a team-best 49 total blocks.

The PIONEERS: Smith (3-21; 0-8 NEWMAC) comes into Tueday's match after shouldering a pair of losses  to Emmanuel and Bridgewater State on Saturday in tri-match action. In the first match, junior captain and outside hitter Xela Miller and first year outside hitter Kimani Freeman posted a match-high 13 kills. In the match against Bridgewater, the Pioneers had three players with double-digit kills, while sophomore outside hitter Maca Rojas notched 39 assists. On the season, Kimani leads the team with 168 kills and Rojas has a team-best 520 assists.

UP NEXT: Following today's match, MHC will compete in its final game of the regular season on Saturday at 1:00pm, facing WPI at home. Smith will travel to the University of St. Joseph on Thursday at 7:00pm.
