Larson-Koester Takes Home Second Place at ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 14, 2010) – For the fourth week in a row, Mount Holyoke College Miriam Larson-Koester established a new school record in the discus. The sophomore recorded a toss of 41.78 meters today at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Springfield College. A total of 72 schools from around the region were represented at the two day event.

As a result of her second place performance, Larson-Koester was awarded All-ECAC honors. She also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships, which are slated to take place at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio from May 27-29.

After shattering Amanda Salb’s previous mark of 39.27 meters at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on April 24, Larson-Koester bested her own record the following weekend at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships. She then set the bar even higher at the New England Championships last weekend.

Her latest record breaking performance made Mount Holyoke eligible for the team standings with the eight points that she earned. The Lyons secured 33rd place overall.

A total of 51 schools posted points. Williams finished atop the standings with 73. The Ephs were followed by MIT (66) and Moravian College (52).
