Larson-Koester Turns in Another Impressive Performance at New England Championships

DEDHAM, Mass. (May 8, 2010) – For the third week in a row, Mount Holyoke College sophomore Miriam Larson-Koester established a new school record in the discus. After shattering Amanda Salb’s previous mark of 39.27 meters at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on April 24, she bested her own record last weekend at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships.

Larson-Koester set the bar even higher with her toss of 40.32 meters today at the New England Championships. The three day competition included athletes from all three NCAA Divisions. It was hosted by Northeastern University at Solomon Stadium.

As a result of her sixth place performance, Larson-Koester was awarded All New England honors. In addition, she made Mount Holyoke eligible for the team standings with the three points that she earned. The Lyons collected 35rd place overall.

A total of 39 schools posted points. Boston College finished atop the standings with102. The Eagles were followed by the University of New Hampshire (93) and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (60).

Larson-Koester will represent Mount Holyoke at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships next week at Springfield College. She will take part in the discus competition at the meet, which is slated to begin on Thursday and run through Friday.
