Meet Program

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (April 3, 2010) – A total of eight teams took part in the 2010 Mount Holyoke College Track and Field Invitational this afternoon in South Hadley, Mass. Joining the host Lyons at the non-scoring meet were the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers, the Smith College Pioneers, the University of Southern Maine Huskies, the Vassar College Brewers and the Wellesley College Blue. The competition featured both men’s and women’s teams.

Over the course of the afternoon, two facility records were broken. Southern Maine’s Hillary Hall established a new high mark of 1.58 meters in the high jump, and Smith’s Ruby Western set a new record in the discus with her toss of 39.21 meters.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was Jacinta Edebeli, who raced to a first place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.52. The junior also teamed with junior Bree Hollinger, senior Kat Newman and senior Temitope Ojo to post a second place time of 53.84 in the 4 x 100-meter relay. Her toss of 28.17 meters in the javelin was good for fifth place overall.

Newman went on to secure third place in the triple jump with a distance of 9.29. Meanwhile, sophomore Miriam Larson-Koester placed second in the discus with a personal best throw of 38.73 meters and fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.49.

Rounding things out for the hosts was first year Maddie Ballon, who collected third place in the pole vault with a height of 2.59 meters.

Former Lyon Meredith Garey ’99 completed the 5,000-meter run in 19:24.64 to take home first place overall.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next Friday, when it participates in the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational at 4:00 p.m.
