Indoor Track and Field Rounds Out Regular Season Slate at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Feb. 13, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s indoor track and field team put the finishing touches on its regular season slate at the MIT Coed Invitational today. Squads from around the region participated in the non-scoring competition, which took place at the Johnson Athletic Center.

Leading the way for the Lyons was junior Jacinta Edebeli, who grabbed second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.78. In addition to establishing a new personal record in the event, she also qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship. Edebeli secured sixth place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.78.

Sophomore Miriam Larson-Koester also enjoyed a productive day, as she secured ninth place in the weight throw and eighth place in the shot put. Her toss of 12.27 meters in the weight throw was a personal best and also make her eligible for the NCAA Regional Championship in the event. She recorded a distance of 11.03 meters in the shot put.

Rounding things out for Mount Holyoke was first year Maddie Ballon, who took home 11th place in the pole vault with a height of 2.74 meters.

The NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships are slated to take place at the University of Southern Maine next weekend. It will begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday. Edebeli is slated to compete in the 55-meter dash in addition to the 200-meter dash. Meanwhile, Larson-Koester will take part in the shot put, weight throw and pentathlon, while Ballon will participate in the pole vault.
