Record Setting Track and Field Teamers Split "Lyon of the Week" Accolades
Sophomore Miriam Larson-Koester and first year Maddie Ballon have earned a share of the “Lyon of the Week” award for the week of February 1-7. The duo helped the indoor track and field team to a seventh place finish at the Smith College Tartan Invitational on Saturday.
In addition to establishing a new school record in the shot put, Larson-Koester also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. Her toss of 11.97 meters (39' 3.25") was good for second place overall. The previous school record of 38' 5.05" was set by Andi Villansenor '07 during the 2006-07 season.
Ballon also registered a program record, taking third place in the pole vault with a height of 2.75 meters (9' 0.25"). The previous high of 8' 11.75" was established in 1992 by Meghan Palmer. Ballon has qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship in the event.
