Indoor Track and Field Breaks Records at Tartan Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Feb. 6, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s indoor track and field team took part in the Tartan Invitational at Smith College today. Amherst College grabbed first place with 136 points. The Lord Jeffs were followed by Worcester State (126) and WPI (109.5). Mount Holyoke’s 31 points were good for seventh place overall out of the 15 participating teams.

Miriam Larson-Koester led the way with a second place finish in the shot put. In addition to establishing a new school record in the event, the sophomore also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship with her toss of 11.97 meters. Classmate Alicia Forrest also excelled in the shot put, taking eighth place with a throw of 9.79 meters.

Mount Holyoke received third place performances from junior Jacinta Edebeli and first year Maddie Ballon. Edebeli posted a time of 28.06 in the 200-meter dash, while Ballon registered a program record height of 2.75 meters in the pole vault.

The Lyons distance relay team of first year Elizabeth McLauchlan, sophomore Holly Valenzuela, first year Brooke Winter-Potter and junior Hannah DiCocco secured first place with a time of 14:05.08.

Mount Holyoke will round out its regular season next Saturday at the MIT Coed Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
