Indoor Track & Field Competes in Southern Maine Invitational

PORTLAND, Maine (Jan. 30, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s indoor track and field team participated in the University of Southern Maine Invitational in Portland, Maine this afternoon. Six teams from around the region took part in the competition.

Bates College amassed 186.50 points en route to the team title. The Bobcats were followed by Springfield College (151.50) and Southern Maine (117.50) in the top three. Rounding out the field were Worcester State College (103), Emannuel College (63.50) and Mount Holyoke (19).

A total of five Lyons earned points. Leading the way was junior Jacinta Edebeli, who posted grabbed fifth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.06 and sixth place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.74. Sophomore Miriam Larson-Koester took home second place in both the shot put and the weight throw with tosses of 10.66 meters and 11.92 meters, respectively.

Mount Holyoke fared well in the 3,000-meter run, as junior Hannah DiCocco and junior Emma Angus each finished in the top eight. DiCocco crossed the line in 11:54.83 to secure fourth place, while Angus grabbed eighth place with a time of 12:04.35.

Rounding things out for the Lyons was first year Maddie Ballon, who recorded a sixth place result in the pole vault with her height of 2.44 meters.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next Saturday, when it competes in the Smith College Tartan Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
