Tennis Tandem Takes Home "Lyon of the Week" Honors
Senior Sarah London and first year My-Linh Nguyen have earned a share of the “Lyon of the Week” award for the week of April 12-18. The duo lifted the tennis team to a 7-2 triumph over Union College on Saturday.
After combining for an 8-2 victory in their number two doubles match, both players secured wins in their respective singles contests. London fell behind 5-1 in the first set of her number four match before rallying for a 7-5, 6-2 win. Meanwhile, Nguyen cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the number six slot. Mount Holyoke also received a boost from sophomore Heather Richardson, who prevailed at both doubles and singles.
With London and Nguyen leading the way, the Lyons closed out the spring portion of their slate with four consecutive wins. The team posted a 6-4 mark, which included victories over the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, Smith College, Bryn Mawr College, RPI, Roger Williams University in addition to Union.
London closed out her collegiate career with a 5-1 singles record during the spring, while Nguyen went 3-1. The tandem recorded a record of 6-2 at the number two doubles position.
