Tennis Races Past Roger Williams, 9-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (April 10, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over non-conference foe Roger Williams University today at the Mount Holyoke Tennis Courts. With their fourth consecutive win, the Lyons remained perfect in three all-time meetings between the programs.

Junior Natalie Hsiang, sophomore Sarah Moore, senior Sarah London, sophomore Heather Richardson, first year My-Linh Nguyen and first year Carly Peltier each posted wins at both singles and doubles for the hosts.

Mount Holyoke swept the doubles matches to gain control of things in the early going. In addition to receiving an 8-1 triumph from its number one tandem of Hsiang and Moore, the Lyons also got an 8-1 win from London and Nguyen at the second slot. Their number three duo of Richardson and Peltier added an 8-2 victory.

The Lyons then won all six singles matches in straight sets to put things away. From top to bottom, the lineup included Hsiang, Moore, London, Richardson, Nguyen and Peltier.

Mount Holyoke (9-11, 3-4 NEWMAC) will put the finishing touches on its 2009-10 slate, when it entertains Union College next Saturday at 10:00 a.m. After facing off against Smith College at 2:30 p.m. later this afternoon, Roger Williams (9-7, 8-3 TCCC) will close out its season at Springfield College on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
