NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (March 27, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s tennis team suffered a pair of setbacks on the opening day of the 2010 Seven Sisters Championship. After falling 4-1 to Vassar College, the Lyons were downed 4-1 by Wellesley College. Both matches took place at Smith College.

In other action, Vassar blanked Smith 5-0, Wellesley cruised to a 5-0 win over Bryn Mawr, and Smith edged Bryn Mawr 3-2. Wellesley and Vassar will enter the second and final day of the event with matching 2-0 records. Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr will each be seeking to break into the win column for the first time, while Smith will be looking to improve upon its 1-1 mark.

The five team round robin tournament will conclude with five more matches tomorrow. Mount Holyoke (5-10, 3-4 NEWMAC) is slated to face off against Smith at 9:00 a.m. and Bryn Mawr at 1:30 p.m.

After dropping their first set, senior Sarah London and first year My-Linh Nguyen battled back for a 2-6, 6-2, (10-6) triumph in their number two doubles contest against Vassar.

Junior Natalie Hsiang and sophomore Sarah Moore then earned a 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, (10-4) victory at the number one doubles slot against Wellesley.
