SUNY New Paltz Tops Tennis, 8-1

HUMACAO, P.R. (March 18, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s tennis team closed out its spring break trip with an 8-1 setback to SUNY New Paltz this afternoon in Humacao, Puerto Rico. With the win, the Hawks improved to 10-2 on the year. The Lyons slipped to 5-9.

SUNY New Paltz was paced by Lindsay Garyn, Montana Wilson, Kayla DiPaulo and Alexandria Esposito, who captured victories at both singles and doubles. The Hawks swept the doubles matches and came out on top in five of the six singles contests.

The Lyons lone triumph came from senior Sarah London, who prevailed 3-6, 5-2, (11-9) at the number one singles position. First year Carly Peltier won the first set in her number five singles match before eventually falling 5-7, 7-5, (10-1).

Mount Holyoke (5-9, 3-4 NEWMAC) will return to action at the end of the month, when it participates in the Seven Sisters Championship at Smith College. After facing off against Vassar College at 11:00 a.m. and Wellesley College at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, the Lyons will take on the host Pioneers at 9:00 a.m. and Bryn Mawr College at 1:30 p.m. the following day.
