Tennis Tandem Secures NEWMAC All-Conference Accolades

???BABSON PARK, Mass. (Oct. 28, 2009) – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced its women’s tennis award winners for the 2009 season. Wheaton College and Wellesley College, who met in the NEWMAC Tournament Championship on Sunday, accounted for all nine of the First Team All-Conference selections.

After leading Wheaton to its first ever NEWMAC Championship, Lynn Miller was named Coach of the Year. Wellesley sophomore Marie Watanabe was tabbed as the Athlete of the Year, while Springfield College’s Sam Carney was named Rookie of the Year. Clark University received the league’s Sportsmanship Award.

Mount Holyoke’s number two doubles duo of junior Natalie Hsiang and sophomore Sarah Moore were named to the NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference after sprinting to a 6-1 mark in league matches this fall. They picked up a thrilling 9-8 (9-7) triumph over Wheaton in the Lyons season opener and later handed MIT an 8-5 setback. They also earned victories over Smith College (9-8), Clark (8-0), Babson College (8-6) and Springfield (8-6).

The Lyons, who advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament for the sixth season in a row, closed out the fall portion of their 2009-10 slate with an overall record of 4-7. They went 3-4 in league play.
