Wesleyan Blanks Tennis, 9-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 7, 2009) – The Wesleyan University women’s tennis team blanked non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Tennis Courts. With the win, the Cardinals improved to a perfect 3-0 on the year. The Lyons dropped to 3-5.

Anika Fischer, Sarah Miller, Meredith Holmes and Genevieve Aniello each collected wins at both singles and doubles to lead the way for the guests.

Wesleyan established an early lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Fischer and Miller teamed up for an 8-2 victory at the number one spot, while Holmes and Aniello won 8-4 in their number two contest. Ana Alvarado and Hannah Berkman chipped in with an 8-2 number three triumph.

The Cardinals finished things off by winning all six singles tilts. Fischer, Miller, Holmes, Aniello, Linda McDougal and Casey Simchik triumphed at the numbers one through six slots, respectively.

The Lyons (3-5, 2-3 NEWMAC) will resume its New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schedule on Saturday, when it visits Babson College at 1:00 p.m. Wesleyan (3-0, 0-0 NESCAC) is set to put the finishing touches on the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday, when it travels to Simmons College for a non-conference competition beginning at 1:00 p.m.
