???SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 23, 2009) – The Connecticut College women’s tennis team cruised to a 7-2 triumph over non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Tennis Courts. It was the Camels first dual match of the 2009-10 campaign. The Lyons fell to 0-2 on the year.

Connecticut College took control of the contest by winning two of the three doubles matches. It’s number one pair of junior Rebecca Heupel and first year Cassie Smith held on for an 8-6 triumph. Meanwhile, first years Sara Krivoshik and Jen Herbert won their number three match by default despite trailing 7-6.

Mount Holyoke’s lone doubles point came from its number two duo of junior Natalie Hsiang and sophomore Sarah Moore, who won by a score of 8-4.

The Camels collected five singles victories to seal things. Smith, Heupel, sophomore Brittany Badik, sophomore Alicia Cauteruccio and Herbet each breezed to straight sets wins at the numbers one, two, four, five and six positions, respectively.

Mount Holyoke senior Sarah London was credited with the victory at the number three singles slot after her opponent retired prior to the third set.

The Lyons (0-2, 0-1 NEWMAC) will return to action on Saturday, when they visits MIT for a NEWMAC contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. Connecticut College (1-0, 0-0 NESCAC) will be off until Saturday, October 10, when it competes in the Middlebury College Fall Tournament. The event is slated to run through Sunday, October 11.
