Tennis Trio Takes Part in ITA Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Sept. 20, 2009) – Several members of the Mount Holyoke College women’s tennis team participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III New England Championship over the weekend at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Sophomore Sarah Moore and first year Nahrhee Han each took part in the singles competition. In the first round, Moore fell 6-1, 6-1 to Mimi Bell of Amherst College, and Han was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Wellesley College’s Jacqueline Shen. Both players were then knocked out in the first round of the consolation bracket. Moore was swept 6-0, 6-0 by Jamie Haar of Middlebury College, and Han was downed 6-2, 6-3 by MIT’s Anastasia Vishnevetsky.

Han teamed with classmate year My-Linh Nguyen to earn a thrilling 8-6 triumph over Amy Shaw and Kyla Walgren of Springfield in the first round of the doubles draw. Their weekend came to a close in the second round, where they suffered an 8-2 setback to Amherst’s Brittany Berckes and Laura Danzig.

Mount Holyoke (0-1, 0-1 NEWMAC) will return to action on Wednesday, when it hosts non-conference foe Connecticut College at 4:30 p.m.
