THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke makes its home debut after a two-game road swing to kick-off 2017. The Lyons welcome the Mammoths of Amherst College for the 29th all-time meeting between the two programs. The series, which began in 1979 and saw the teams each grab victories (3-0 Amherst, 3-2 MHC), is led by the Mammoths who have gone 21-6-1. That mark includes 17 straight victories for Amherst.

THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (1-1-0) opened the 2017 campaign in solid fashion last week, falling to UMass-Dartmouth (3-2 2OT) before besting Albertus Magnus (6-1). In the victory over the Falcons, the Lyons saw senior forward Sara Sanau Ruiz tally a pair of goals, while junior goalie Amanda Manaster earned the victory with four stops.

THE MAMMOTHS: Amherst (0-0-0) opens its campaign with Thursday's game. The Mammoths are coming off a 2016 season in which they went 17-3-1 overall with an 8-1-1 in NESCAC action. The squad not only won the NESCAC Championship, but also advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Amherst returns three of its top-five scorers from a year ago, including the leading scorer Hannah Guzzi, who recorded 19 goals and five assists for 43 points in 2016.

NEXT UP: Both teams are back in action on Saturday as Mount Holyoke welcomes Southern Vermont at 1pm, while Amherst opens conference play against Bowdoin at home for 12pm.
