Golf Opens Season at Dartmouth Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. (Sept. 20, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s golf team kicked off its 2009-10 season with a 17th place finish this weekend at the Dartmouth College Invitational. A total of 20 squads competed in the tournament, which was hosted by Hanover Country Club (par 72 – 5,807 yards).

Towson University earned the team title, recording a two day score of 625 (311, 314). Boston College (627) and Brown University (631) rounded out the top three.

Eunice Yim of Boston College fired a five over 149 (75, 74) to secure top individual honors. She was followed by Kristen MacDonald of Fairfield University and Sarah Sideranko of the University of Hartford, who recorded matching scores of 152 (75, 77).

Mount Holyoke’s top finisher was sophomore Alexandra Irish, who grabbed 34th place overall (163 – 83, 80). First year Kate Merrill took home 52nd place in her collegiate debut (167 – 86, 81). Meanwhile, junior Sarah Keating chipped in with a 76th place showing (174 – 86, 88).

The Lyons will host their home invitational next weekend at the Orchards Golf Club. The tournament is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
