THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday, playing the second game of the stretch against NEWMAC-rival, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). It marks the 42nd all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to 1976-77 - a 45-42 MHC victory. The Engineers own the series edge by a 29-12 margin, including wins in each of the last six contests. The Lyons last victory over WPI came during the 2013-14 season, a 43-38 win.
THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (0-4) is back on the court following the holiday break. It's most recent contest coming last Tuesday in a tough loss to area-rival, Elms. Sophomore guard Katlyn Grover paced the effort for the Lyons, finishing just shy of a double-double with a game-high 14 points and nine rebounds. Through the first three games, Grover leads the Lyons in scoring with a 14.5 points per game average. Junior captain Leah Hodges owns the top marks in rebounds per contest with 5.3 so far.
THE ENGINEERS: WPI (4-0) comes into Wednesday's match following a 60-42 victory over Bates on Saturday at home. Senior Ama Biney became the 18th WPI women's basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone and led all student-athletes with 19 points. Through the squad's first four games, Biney currently leads the Engineers in scoring and rebounds with averages of 17.8 and 6.8, respectively.
NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke is right back in action against conference-foe, MIT on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1pm at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. The Engineers are also in action on Saturday, traveling to Smith for a 2pm NEWMAC tilt.
