Title: Assistant Field Hockey Coach

Spencer-Blaetz '11 joined the field hockey staff at Mount Holyoke in 2014.

Prior to joining the staff at MHC, Spencer-Blaetz served as an assistant coach for the field hockey program at Washington & Jefferson College. During her tenure, she helped lead the team to two winning seasons, improving in the second year (11-8 and 13-6). She helped coach seven Empire 8 All-Conference selections, as well as three North Atlantic All-Region honorees during that span.

Among her other duties were assisting the head coach in preparation for the year, including hotel bookings, travel plans and scheduling. She also planned all aspects of practice with the head coach, including warm up, conditioning, drills and supervising scrimmages. Spencer-Blaetz also provided individual instruction to players, while assisting in all aspects of the recruiting process, including attending showcases, evaluating talent, making first contact and maintaining contact throughout the year.

She also helped create marking materials to be distributed to recruits, showcasing the program, institution and facilities. Additionally, she helped create individualized off-season workout packets for returning players that included conditioning, speed, agility and footwork drills.

Spencer-Blaetz also worked as an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Venom Field Hockey Club. In that capacity, she worked with girls from ages 12 to 18, coaching all different skill levels. She set up drills to prepare for indoor tournament play and developed indoor strategy. Additionally, she helped develop basic skills for the beginning players and successfully integrated all skill levels into drills. She also directed all aspects of defensive drills and strategy for all levels within the club.

Spencer-Blaetz has also served as an instructor at numerous camps across the Northeast, including the Nike Camp at Mount Holyoke, Williams College and Worcester State. Additionally, she has worked at various Revolution camps throughtout New England and will serve as the Director of Revolution Camp at Avon Old Farms in the Summer of 2015.

A former standout for the Lyons, she played in 64 career games, tallying a goal with two assists for four points. She also added three shots (2 on goal) with 11 defensive saves.

Serving as a captain during her senior season, Spencer-Blaetz helped lead the Lyons to four straight appearances in the NEWMAC Tournament.
