Kilburn Selected for Lyon of the Week Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Sept. 24, 2013) – Junior midfielder Kirsten Kilburn has been selected as the Lyon of the Week recipient for the period ending September 22nd. Kilburn helped guide the Lyons field hockey team to a pair of wins, including an outstanding effort in a win at Castleton State.

In two games last week, Kilburn tallied a team-high five points on a goal and three assists. She added a team-best 19 shots of which nine were on goal. Her biggest effort of the week came in a 4-1 win at Castleton State as she scored a goal and assisted on the other three to help the Lyons beat a squad they had lost to the previous season.

For the season, Kilburn is second on the team in points with 28. In addition to a team-best 10 assists, she has added nine goals, including one game-winner. She has recorded 54 shots of which 33 have gone on goal.

Through the first seven games, which have seen the Lyons go undefeated, Kilburn ranks first in the nation and the conference in assists per game (1.43). She is also fifth in the nation in points per game (4.00).

The Lyons field hockey team (7-0), which is ranked 20th in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, returns to action this evening when it hosts Wesleyan at 7pm on the MHC Turf Field. MHC then opens its 2013 NEWMAC schedule on Saturday, welcoming Wellesley at 1pm.
