Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Feb. 29th

RIDING

Mount Holyoke returned to action last weekend, taking home top honors at the UMass/Westfield State Co-Hosted Show in Hadley. The Lyons amassed 43 points in victory, paced by sophomore Taryn Isenburg (Wilbraham, Mass.), who was the overall high point rider, as well as the novice high point rider. MHC returns to action this weekend when it hosts its first show of 2016 at the MHC Equestrian Center. The event will begin at 9am on Saturday.

 

SWIMMING & DIVING

For the third straight season, senior captain Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C.) will represent the Lyons at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. This year's tournament will begin on March 16 and run through March 19. Pruden is expected to participate in the 200-IM, the 400-IM and the 1650-freestyle. Stay tuned for more details early this week.

 

 

SQUASH

Mount Holyoke waits for the official announcement of selected players who will compete at this year's CSA Individual Championships. The event, which is hosted at the Chelsea Piers Club in Stamford, Conn., runs Friday through Sunday. More information will follow once selections are announced.

 

TRACK & FIELD

MHC was idle last weekend, but returns to action this week as senior captain Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill.) competes at the 2016 ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted at the New York City Armory. The event, which begins on Friday and runs through Saturday, will see Coklow look to defend her title in the 60-meter dash, which she won last year in a time of 7.71. LACROSSE

Under the direction of ninth-year head coach Miriam Esber, the Lyons look to return to the NEWMAC Tournament for the fourth-straight year, after coming off a 2015 season that saw them go 6-10 overall and 3-5 in conference play. MHC brings in 19 players to the 2016 squad, including 14 returners and five newcomers. The Lyons kick-off the 2016 campaign on Saturday in a 1pm game at Bridgewater State. Mount Holyoke's first home contest will be on March 9 in a 5pm game against Westfield State. TENNIS

Mount Holyoke returns to the court this weekend, hosting Bates College on Saturday at 1pm. Guided by 23rd-year head coach Aldo Santiago, the Lyons had an outstanding afall campaign, going 8-4 and 5-3 in NEWMAC play. MHC defeated Wheaton in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals, advancing to the Semifinals for the season straight season before falling against eventuarl champion, MIT.
