Lyons Tales: A Review & Preview of Mount Holyoke Athletics for Nov. 20th

Preview photo for the Athletics Weekly Newsletter, the Lyons Tales.

RIDING

Mount Holyoke powered its way to its fourth-straight win and its second 47-point performance of the season on Saturday, claiming victory at its home show. In addition to its many blue ribbons, the Lyons saw a bevy of riders claim individual show honors at the end of the day. In total, five riders earned awards, including sophomore Franny Eremeeva (Northampton, Mass.), who was the Overall Reserve High Point Rider. MHC is now idle until December 2, when it sends two teams to compete at the Holiday Tournament of Champions, hosted by the University of Findlay in Ohio.

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Lyons concluded their three meet homestand last weekend, suffering a tough 173-121 loss to Wellesley on Saturday. Pacing the Lyons was first year Naomi Brown (Bloomington, Ind.), who won the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.  Mount Holyoke (1-3) is now idle for the Thanksgiving holiday, but returns to action on Dec. 1-2 at the Hamilton College Invitational. Action kicks off on the Friday at 5pm and Saturday will see split sessions at both 10am and 5pm.  Fans can follow all the action live (when available) at http://athletics.mtholyoke.edu/sports/wswimdive/2017-18/schedule.

SQUASH

Mount Holyoke shouldered its first loss of the season last week, falling at #20 Tufts by a 7-2 margin. Junior Nadindhi Udangawa (Colombo, Sri Lanka) paced the effort for the #27 Lyons with a victory from the second spot on the ladder. MHC (3-1) is now idle for the Thanksgiving holiday, but will play its final match of the fall semester on December 2nd when it squares-off against Northeastern in a neutral site match at Amherst College at 4pm.

BASKETBALL

The Lyons opened their 2017-18 campaign last week and despite several strong performances, MHC shouldered an 0-3 record to start the year. Mount Holyoke lost to Worcester State, and then fell to Maine Maritime and Pine Manor at the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament. Sophomore guard Katlyn Grover (Bernardston, Mass.) highlighted the week, scoring a career-and-game high 31 points in Sunday's loss to the Gators. MHC (0-3) is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Elms College at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 5:30pm. Fans can follow all the action live (when available) at http://athletics.mtholyoke.edu/sports/wbkb/2017-18/schedule.
