The Mount Holyoke College cross country program opened a new era in 2017, when Chris Kibler took over as the program's head coach. Mount Holyoke, which has consistently ranked high in conference and regional championships, took home top honors at the Seven Sisters Championship in 2007. It was the third time that the program achieved the feat (1992, 1999). The Lyons were also crowned NEWMAC Champions in 1992.

Individually, Mount Holyoke runners have also excelled. In 1994, Samantha Williams earned NEWMAC All-Conference honors and was voted New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie of the Year. Meredith Garey received All-Conference accolades in 1995, and Katy Trandem grabbed the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year Award in 1999. Trandem was joined by Anne Ritchmeyer on the NEWMAC All-Conference Team in 1999. In 2002, Sarah Sladen and Niki Lefebvre were voted to the NEWMAC All-Conference Team, and Sladen earned All-New England honors at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regional meet. During the 2005 season, Christine Klepacki was selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference Team and nabbed All-New England honors. Halaina Demba garnered NEWMAC All-Conference Team honors in 2007.

The competitive season begins the second Saturday in September with runners competing every weekend until just before Thanksgiving. Included in the schedule are invitational meets against NCAA Division III schools from around the northeast. Opponents include Williams College, Bates College, Bowdoin College and Smith College.

Training combines trail work, long-distance road work and occasional track work, which is designed to develop a runner's strength, endurance and speed. One of the team's goals each year is to send runners to postseason competition. Mount Holyoke runners have consistently qualified for both the NCAA Division III  New England Regional Championships and the ECAC Championships. In addition several Lyons have gone on to participate in the NCAA National Championships. The team is striving to be ranked among the top ten percent of teams overall in New England Division III.

As a Mount Holyoke scholar-athlete, you are driven to excel in the athletic arena as well as the classroom and laboratory. The discipline, sense of accomplishment, and competitive edge that you bring to your sport resonate through every channel of your intellectual life.

The desire to achieve--it's all part of the mind-body connection.
