ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- Senior Sarah West led the way for the Mount Holyoke College cross country team as the Lyons placed 10th among 12 teams at the NEWMAC Championships, held Saturday at Highland Park and hosted by Wheaton College.
Mount Holyoke edged Emerson for 10th place, with Clark finishing 12th (307). No. 2 nationally ranked MIT won the team title with 24 points, placing seven runners among the top 10 finishers.
West (Concord, N.H.) scored 39th and placed 52nd out of 143 runners overall with a time of 24:56.7 over the 6K course, pacing the Lyons for the third straight race.
Junior captain Anita Konopka (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) finished 71st overall in 25:39.9, and was followed in the team scoring by senior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) in 79th (25:58.0), sophomore Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) in 95th (26:57.5), and first-year Marin Lambert (Bothell, Wash.) in 98th (27:06.4). Scoring displacers for the Lyons were senior Tess Marini-Rapoport (Northampton, Mass.) in 101st place (27:16.0) and junior Quinn Gilman (Honolulu, Hawaii) in 117th (28:21.2).
The Lyons' top seven runners will race at the NCAA Mideast Regionals, taking place Nov. 15 at Saint Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
